Free affirmation wallpaper maker, for your lock screen

Put an affirmation on a phone background and take it away as a 1080 by 1920 PNG. Pick a line from the library or write your own, choose a photo and a script, move the words where your clock is not, and download. It is free, nothing leaves your browser, and there is no sign-up.

Soften the photo behind the words. Auto reads the picture and uses only as much as the words need.

How to set it as your iPhone lock screen

On an iPhone, tapping Download saves the PNG to Files rather than straight to your camera roll, which is where most people lose it. Open the Files app, go to Downloads, tap the wallpaper, then tap the share icon and choose Save Image. It now sits at the end of your Photos library.

From Photos, open the wallpaper, tap the share icon again, scroll down the list and tap Use as Wallpaper. Pinch to position it, tap Add, then choose Set as Wallpaper Pair to use it on both screens, or Customize Home Screen if you want the lock screen only. You can also start from Settings, then Wallpaper, then Add New Wallpaper, and pick it from Photos.

Two things worth knowing. The clock sits across the top third of the lock screen, so centre or bottom placement keeps your line readable; top placement is really for the home screen. And if iOS lifts part of the photo in front of your text, tap the three dots in the wallpaper editor and turn Depth Effect off. On Android the route is shorter: open the downloaded image in Photos or Gallery, tap the menu, and choose Use as, then Wallpaper.

Choosing a line that still works on day nine

A wallpaper is the one affirmation you will read most, forty or fifty times a day, without meaning to. That changes what makes a good one. A line you have to talk yourself into gets irritating by the third morning, and an irritating line trains you to look past your own phone. Pick the one you could say out loud in an ordinary voice, not the most ambitious one on the list, and swap it when it stops landing.

Short helps too, because a lock screen is read at a glance and through a notification or two. Six to ten words hold; a sentence with a comma in the middle usually does not. If you want more lines to try before you commit one to your screen, the self-love affirmations and the morning affirmations are the two collections most of these wallpapers come from. For a version you can hold rather than scroll, there are free printable affirmation cards as well, same lines, made for a mirror or a desk.

Questions about the wallpapers

Is the affirmation wallpaper maker free?

Yes. Every line, every background and every download is free, and there is no sign-up, no watermark you have to pay to remove, and no limit on how many you make. The small heraffirmations.app mark at the foot is on by default and you can switch it off with one tap before you download.

What size are the wallpapers, and will they fit my phone?

Each one downloads as a 1080 by 1920 PNG, which is the standard 9:16 phone ratio and covers every current iPhone and almost every Android. On a taller screen your phone crops a little from the top and bottom rather than stretching the image, so keeping the words in the centre is the safest placement.

Can I use my own words instead of a line from the library?

Yes. Switch to Write your own and type up to 90 characters. Short works better than clever on a lock screen: first person, present tense, and something you could say out loud without flinching. If a line makes you argue with yourself every time you look at your phone, it is the wrong line, so soften it until it fits.

Where do the background photos come from, and can I post them?

The backgrounds are free stock photographs from Pexels, and the photographer is credited under the preview with a link to the original. The Pexels licence allows personal and commercial use, so you can keep your wallpaper, send it to a friend or post it. Crediting the photographer is not required there but it is a kind habit.
